third step:

DON'T!!! use wired drill unless it has a clutch in it. The engine spins faster than the drill. You will get injured.
Better of get a new pullstart or atleast a cordless drill.
And if you want to ride you'll ned the cover for the flywheel. so probably better to make a hole in the one you have, kount it on, and then use the drill

The timing key or the slot (on the shaft or in the flywheel)?
How did that happen?

diddo! ^^^^^ wheelyking thats the luckiest thing you can have happen!!!! you're really lucky you didnt snap the head off the bolt which is what usually happens when trying to use a drill. then you're stuck with a hardened stud thats permanently stuck in your crankshaft which will not drill out you'll have to get a new crankshaft.

bite the bullet and buy a new pull start!!! i recommend the all aluminum model found at davesmotors. it comes with an aluminum cog and aluminum housing. then go to your local hardware store and get some premium lawnmower pull cord. its a tad thicker has better/ tighter weaving and its made of a better material then the crappy cotton. just make sure you pull the stock cord out and keep the thing from spinning and carefully install the new precut cord.

i was snapping stock cords left and right ever since i installed the premium cord i've never had to touch my pull starts and i pull the hell out of them with really high compression!!!
